Meet the Artist

Helga Christiane Lavan

For Helga, nature is more than inspiration. It is the material itself.

Her work begins with what the natural world offers—fallen leaves, flowers and foliage, lichens, mushrooms, and plants gathered for their natural dyes. Through eco-printing, these fleeting and often overlooked forms are given another life, their colors, shapes and delicate imperfections preserved in cloth.

There is something deeply meaningful to Helga in taking a leaf that has fallen and seemingly reached the end of its life and allowing it to leave one more impression. Each piece becomes a kind of botanical memory—a moment in nature captured and transformed into something that can be worn, used, and kept.

Working with natural fibers, organic materials and botanical dyes, Helga allows nature to remain an active participant in the process. The results can never be completely controlled or precisely repeated. Every impression is nature's own.
